In the English town of Pontefract they have long been experts in growing liquorice which they form into Jet-black sweets called Pontefract Cakes, known locally as the Yorkshire Penny.
Tasting of vanilla, caramel and liquorice they made the town of Pontefract famous.
In the 1800's a curious soul added pontefract cakes to the popular imported rum and created the original black rum blend.
